Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Gardens wins a Green Flag Award

Posted 16th Jul 2026

There is good news for one of Bewdley’s best-loved green spaces. The Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Gardens, behind Bewdley Museum, has earned a Green Flag Award, the internationally recognised standard for a well-managed park or green space.

The gardens are among a record 2,391 sites across the UK to reach the standard this year, as the Green Flag Award scheme marks its thirtieth year in 2026. The award recognises the care that goes into keeping a space to a high standard for residents and visitors alike, and Wyre Forest District Council was quick to credit the volunteers whose work in the gardens was singled out in the judging.

If you have not spent much time there, the gardens are worth the walk. Behind the museum you will find ornamental fishponds, an orchard, an inclusive play area and a ‘Green Theatre’, all enclosed by old listed walls that give the space its particular character and a real sense of place in the middle of town.

Councillor Nathan Desmond, Wyre Forest District Council’s cabinet member for operational services, said: “The Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Gardens is a valued green space in the heart of Bewdley, so it is fantastic to see it recognised with a Green Flag Award. This achievement reflects the dedication of everyone involved in caring for the gardens and maintaining them to such a high standard, including the volunteers whose hard work in the gardens has been recognised by this award.”

Paul Todd MBE, Green Flag Award manager at Keep Britain Tidy, added: “Parks are essential public spaces that support our wellbeing, our communities and our economy. Wyre Forest District Council has shown what can be achieved when parks are properly supported and managed.”

The Green Flag Award scheme is run by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy under contract from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government, and sets the benchmark for green space management in the UK and beyond.
