Rain didn’t stop play at this year’s Bewdley Duck Race, held on Easter Monday 2025. Hundreds of spectators lined the banks of the River Severn to watch the colourful flotilla of rubber ducks make their way downstream after being launched from Bewdley Bridge.
Organised by the Kidderminster and District Lions Club, the event went ahead in damp conditions, with umbrellas and waterproofs very much the order of the day. But the crowd stayed upbeat, and the launch — kicked off with a cannon blast — delivered the usual mix of chaos, cheer, and slow-moving competition.
Local canoeists and kayakers, many from Wyre Forest Canoe Club, were on hand in the water to help keep ducks on course and ensure a safe and fun race for all. The number of entrants was impressive, with participants arriving throughout the morning to register their ducks and support the cause.
Funds raised from the race go directly to local charities supported by the Lions Club, and the £3-per-duck fee has once again helped turn a light-hearted tradition into something genuinely impactful for the community.
Coverage of the event can be seen in the Bromsgrove Advertiser and Kidderminster Shuttle, which also published a set of photos showing the mix of colour, activity, and very soggy spectators.
Despite the weather, the 2025 event proved again why the Duck Race is one of the town’s favourite Easter Monday fixtures — rain, shine, or anything in between.
