There’s something undeniably heart-warming about watching tiger cubs take their first wobbly steps into the outside world. And when it happens just up the road at West Midlands Safari Park, it’s even more special.
Three endangered Amur tiger cubs, born at the park late last year, have now ventured outdoors for the very first time – and yes, it’s every bit as adorable as you’d imagine. Captured by the BBC in a recent episode of Our Lives, the footage shows the playful trio exploring their new surroundings under the watchful eyes of mum, Bira.
These cubs aren’t just cute – they’re important. Amur tigers are one of the world’s most endangered big cats, with fewer than 500 left in the wild. Breeding efforts like this one form part of a crucial European Endangered Species Programme (EEP), and it’s a big deal that a regional park like West Midlands is contributing to their future.
It’s also a rare chance to see how much care and effort goes into looking after these animals. Keepers worked closely with Bira from day one, giving her space to bond with the cubs while monitoring their progress. It paid off. Now, just a few months later, the cubs are thriving – full of energy, curiosity, and chaos.
If you’re anywhere near Bewdley, you don’t need a passport or a plane ticket to witness something extraordinary. The Safari Park has always been one of the area’s biggest draws, but this spring it’s got something very special going on behind the fences. And yes, you can visit – just be warned, you might lose hours watching tiny tigers tumble about like overgrown kittens.
