Habberley Valley Local Nature Reserve is a 68-acre protected green space situated between Kidderminster and Bewdley. The site offers a diverse landscape, featuring open acid grassland and heathland in the south, which transitions into birch and oak woodland with a bilberry understorey towards the north. It is a popular destination for walkers and nature enthusiasts looking to explore the natural environment of the Wyre Forest district.
A prominent natural feature of the valley is Peckett Rock, a striking red sandstone escarpment that rises vertically to 120 feet. The rock bears deep gullies worn over centuries by visitors climbing to take in the panoramic views across the reserve. The diverse habitats support a wide array of wildlife, including all three native species of woodpecker, buzzards, adders, and rare invertebrates such as the terrestrial caddisfly. To aid in conservation, the heathland is grazed periodically by a herd of Shetland cattle.
The reserve provides open access all year round with free onsite parking. Visitors can follow numerous pathways across the site, including a waymarked circular walk that navigates the undulating terrain and passes historic farmland. Due to the sandy nature of the soil, horse riding is not permitted, and visitors are encouraged to respect the peaceful environment and local wildlife during their visit.
