The George Hotel on Load Street is taking part in the Wetherspoon craft cider festival this summer, a ten-day celebration of cider running from Friday 31 July to Sunday 9 August. It is a good excuse to try something different close to home, with up to fifteen ciders on offer, among them traditional apple ciders, perries and fruitier flavoured options from producers across the country.
Through the festival, craft cider pints are priced at £2.99, and if you would rather sample a few than commit to a full pint, you can pick three third-of-a-pint tasters for the same price. Ciders lined up include Farmer Jim’s Prickly Pear, Hecks Slack-Ma-Girdle, Purbeck Dandy Dab, Rich’s Sunset Gold, Thistly Cross Jaggy Thistle, Harry’s Scrummage and Pulp Razzberry Rush.
Tasting notes are available in the pub and on the Wetherspoon app and website, and everything can be ordered at the bar or through the app. Pub manager Ryan Underhill said the festival “is a great celebration of craft cider” and would let the pub “showcase a number of craft ciders not previously available to our customers”.
