The Bailiffs House is a premier lounge, restaurant, and events venue situated in one of the most significant historic buildings in Bewdley. Completed in 1610 for Thomas Boylston, the town’s bailiff, this Grade II* listed Jacobean property is a local landmark famously known as the first building in the UK to be dated using dendrochronology. The interior retains its original character with wonky floors, exposed timber beams, and a grand open fireplace, providing an atmospheric setting for diners and visitors.
The establishment focuses on a Mediterranean and Italian culinary theme, offering a menu that includes authentic pasta dishes, stone-baked pizzas, and seafood specialities. The venue is split across two floors, featuring a rustic dining area upstairs and a sophisticated lounge bar on the ground floor. The bar is particularly well-regarded for its extensive cocktail menu, featuring professionally shaken classics and contemporary creations, alongside a curated selection of fine wines and local ales.
The premises are fully dog-friendly and designed to be inclusive for families, often featuring live music sessions or themed food nights during the peak season. During the warmer months, guests can enjoy the private rear garden, which offers a quiet alfresco retreat from the High Street. Currently, the restaurant and lounge are open to the public on Friday and Saturday evenings, with other days available for private bookings and pre-arranged events.
